Specialized Therapies & Treatment Techniques
At Mountain Valley Orthopedics, our occupational therapist utilizes a variety of advanced techniques and modalities to enhance recovery, reduce pain, and improve overall function. Each treatment is tailored to the individual needs of our patients, helping them regain strength, mobility, and confidence in their daily activities.
Our Interventions
We provide custom splinting and orthotic solutions designed to meet each patient’s individual needs. Unlike prefabricated braces, our custom orthoses are carefully crafted to fit the unique contours of the injured body part—offering superior support, protection, and correction to aid in healing and restoring function.

Custom splints can help patients return to their daily activities with improved comfort and mobility while reducing pain and preventing further injury.
Custom splinting may be recommended for:
- Arthritis
- Tendon injuries
- Fractures (broken bones)
- Acute or chronic pain
- Burns
- Nerve injuries
Whether used to stabilize a healing bone, protect a tendon repair, or relieve discomfort from chronic conditions, our specialists ensure each orthosis is tailored to promote optimal recovery and long-term function.
Cupping therapy is a gentle, noninvasive technique used to reduce pain, inflammation, and muscle tightness while improving circulation and mobility. This treatment involves using suction cups to lift the skin and underlying tissues, promoting increased blood flow and aiding in the body’s natural healing process.

Benefits include:
- Reduction in pain and inflammation
- Improved blood flow and tissue healing
- Decreased muscle tightness
- Enhanced range of motion
Cupping may be beneficial for:
- Arthritis and rheumatoid arthritis
- Shoulder pain
- Carpal tunnel syndrome
- Lateral epicondylitis (tennis elbow)
- Medial epicondylitis (golfer’s elbow)
- Scar adhesions
Tuning fork therapy is a noninvasive, gentle treatment that uses sound vibrations to stimulate soft tissues and promote healing. The vibrations help increase circulation, improve tissue mobility, and reduce pain and swelling in targeted areas.

Benefits include:
- Improved tissue mobility
- Reduced scar adhesions
- Enhanced circulation and decreased swelling
- Decreased muscle spasms and hypersensitivity
- Gentle alleviation of pain and tightness
Commonly used for:
- Severe scar adhesions
- Swelling
- Hypersensitivity following injury or surgery
Paraffin wax therapy provides soothing heat therapy that penetrates deep into the joints and muscles of the hands. By immersing the hands in warm, melted paraffin wax, patients experience relief from stiffness and discomfort while improving flexibility and function.

Benefits include:
- Reduction in pain and stiffness
- Improved range of motion in the hands and wrists
- Increased comfort with daily activities
- Enhanced circulation and relaxation
Paraffin wax treatments are especially beneficial for patients with arthritis, chronic hand pain, or postsurgical stiffness.
Kinesiology (KT) taping is a supportive technique designed to assist the body’s natural healing process while providing stability to muscles and joints. The elastic tape gently lifts the skin, improving circulation, reducing inflammation, and aiding in neuromuscular reeducation. When incorporated into a comprehensive therapy plan, KT taping enhances functional outcomes and supports patients in safely performing daily activities.

Benefits include:
- Pain relief and inflammation reduction
- Improved circulation and healing
- Enhanced joint stability and movement awareness
- Support for injured or recovering muscles and tendons
Common diagnoses treated with KT taping include:
- Trigger finger
- Postsurgical swelling or scarring
- Joint instability (wrist, thumb, shoulder, elbow, fingers)
- Carpal tunnel syndrome
- Tendinopathies
- Tennis elbow and golfer’s elbow
